This hub is jointly run by two NHS Trusts. Dorset County Hospital (DCH) in Dorchester is a leading district general hospital known for its high-quality, patient-centred care. Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust is the primary provider of mental health, community health, and specialist learning disability services across Dorset, serving over 750,000 people.
The hub itself is based in the community, in the Linden Centre, which is also home to an NHS vaccination clinic – bring research and delivery into one unique centre.
The health of Weymouth and Portland is mixed, generally comparing well with England averages in some areas but experiencing poorer outcomes in specific long-term conditions and higher levels of deprivation compared to the rest of Dorset. As of 2025, the area faces challenges with high rates of chronic illnesses and significant socioeconomic inequalities. In 2022, the area was described by locals as a “forgotten town”.
We have made specialist efforts to connect with the community, and more work will be done later in the year with the first ever open day.
