Professor Saul Faust is a leading clinician-scientist and Hon Consultant in Paediatric Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Southampton and University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. As an NIHR Senior Investigator, he plays a major national role in advancing research into infection, immunity, and vaccine development.
Prof. Faust serves as the UK NIHR Vaccine Innovation Pathway National Co‑clinical Lead for infection vaccines, helping accelerate new vaccine candidates through early development. He is also Director of the NIHR Southampton Clinical Research Facility and Clinical Director Lead for the UK Clinical Research Facilities Network, overseeing early-phase and experimental medicine infrastructure across the country.
Within the NIHR Research Delivery Network, he is the Health and Care Co‑Medical Director for South Central and the National Specialty Co‑lead for Children, supporting high-quality research delivery and improving access for paediatric populations.
An MHRA First‑in‑Human–accredited investigator in infection and immunology and an Honorary Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine, Prof. Faust brings extensive expertise to early translational research. His work spans adult and paediatric vaccine trials, antimicrobial studies, and diagnostic innovation. He has served as Chief or Principal Investigator on numerous global trials, ranging from first‑in‑human studies to phase IV, contributing to the development of vaccines addressing major infectious disease threats worldwide.
